"THE ALLEY

The herder’s dogs heard the steps long before he was able to see the stranger. It was getting dark, and all he wanted was to go home, away from that doomed place. And that was what he was about to do when the man approached him
- Is this the way to Widow’s Creek?-he asked.
- Sure - the herdsman answered - but it’s not quite close, so you better find a house to sleep in that village - he pointed to the little group of houses barely visible through the evening’s mist – and take that road in the morning.
- But I thought that alley would be a shorter way- the stranger pointed to a lonesome path that started not far from the crossroad they were staying at.
- True. It’s shorter. But you won’t like to go down there, right? That alley is definitely goddamned.
- Really?
- Well, it’s said a huge shaggy dog dwells there. Keirr they call him, because it’s black as night. And if you meet him and look into his dead glowing eyes and feel his hot breath, you won’t live much longer.
- I don’t believe in ghosts and old stories – the man smiled.
- It’s up to you to believe it or not. Old Doug also didn’t believe in stories… But one night he walked home and decided to take the shorter road – he nodded towards the alley - and when he managed to get home all he said was “He's following me…he's following me….” And fell dead.
- Poor fellow! – said the stranger. He said goodbye to the herdsman and entered the misty alley, never to be seen again."

*******

I did this picture back in 2006, but I wasn't confident about the story... My english isn't at all good, I know, so tell me if I made any spelling mistakes etc.

A ref for Keirr (meaning "Black") is comming soon :)

That's a very interesting piece. Your story behind the work really gets me "into" the picture. It's almost like the fog is really tangible, and the dog is standing right there. I can almost feel the heat emnating from his body.

:+fav:

You have a great imagination, and I can't wait to see the reference sheet for this fellow!

First of all, I'd like to say I;m sorry for not commenting on enough of your worksies.
Because I've been naughty, and have hardly commented at all.

So, first off, the character is amazing... He works so well with the mood of the picture, and I love how the background is the same colour as his eyes, againsthsi dark fur. It's really striking.
Once again, your fur is also mezmerising... It's length, and sheer volume add another dimension to this piece.

Secondly, the story. Wowowowow! It's awesome, adding such depth and meaning to the illustration. (It's also going to give me nightmares, but hey, we live trough these things!) There were no mistakes that I could pick up, but then again, my spelling is far from perfect.

Awesome work.
