'Windy Day'- Walkthru by Yellow-eyes 'Windy Day'- Walkthru by Yellow-eyes
As a few of you said you'd like to see how I made "Windy Day" [link] :)

As I mentioned, the picture was done in Photoshop CS3 with a wacom tablet. And no, I have no idea about how long did it take me. I never know how much time it takes me to finish a picture.

It's quite confusing, I know, but I'm not one for explaining things....I'm submitting this into the "Tutorials" category, but this is NOT supposed to be a tutorial. I just thought it wouldn't fit into the "digital art" category :/. This just shows the way I made this picture, step by step. I release most of my pictures this way, and the steps are more or less the same. So this will give you an idea of how I work, just in case someone was curious....This doesn't show all the little tricks I use though ;).

But for these that may try to use this as a tutorial: feel free to try this technique, but don't try to make your pictures look just like'll find your own style, which will be unique and original, and probably better than mine :). Experiment and try new things! I tried many techniques before I found one I was comfortable with.

eDIT: whoops, spelling mistake....It says ' "a" different tonalities'...just ignore that 'a' .

You said that this wasn't intended to be a tutorial, but let me tell you that this is the most useful step-by-step fur guide I've seen. Your final result is stunning.

Just a question, when you make fur patterns on the animal do you put each base color on a separate layer, or paint them on one layer?

Thank you!

in the 2nd row of steps when you are adding those dark fur lines and then you say to smudge. Do you have does fur lines in a different layer in order to make smudging more easier??? I dont want to have to go over each fur line with smudge tool...

I guess she creates a new layer for every new step... At least I do xD

SD-DreamCrystal Featured By Owner Aug 13, 2011  Hobbyist General Artist
quick question, do you do all the coloring on the line-art layer or on another layer above it?
7neondragon Featured By Owner Feb 20, 2012  Student Artisan Crafter
bit late, but it's easier to do it all on a layer below it so you can see the line-art :)

I see! Well I need to remember that :) Thanks for the tip

wow this helps me so much I can implement the way I do fur with your way *if that is fine* on my 2nd fur attempt I drew the fur strand by strand. I shall follow this tutorial and see the final result but I am using my fursona as a guinea pig so I was wondering if you could help me out on white fur, like do I have a white ^^; also how do you add markings onto the fur without ruining the quality?

How you go from step 6 to step 7 amazes me. Looks like you pressed a button that says 'realism effect' lol. Great job! Just got a wacom tablet, new to drawing realistic wolves with your tutorial! I have no idea if you have time to even read this, because there are so many other comments, x.x but your tutorials look like they'll help me A LOT. Thank you so much for making them. Enough of my chatting. Hope you had a happy holidays!

Really an awesome detailed way to make it look so insanely real.

One question, do you draw the single strands with gentle flows on the graphic tablet or do you use the pen tool?
irwingb Featured By Owner Dec 16, 2009
hola, saludos. Qué tipo de instrumento usas para tus ilustraciones? solo el mouse o usas tabla de dibujo?
Noder Featured By Owner Dec 6, 2009  Student General Artist
Hi! I'm amazed by your patience on fur, I tried it digitally, but it killed my eyes. It works on paper and pencil with me tho :D

My question yould be the is about the type of letters used for the headline, they look really neat!
